There’s been a lot said about Moscow leading up to its release, and most of it has been utter rubbish. The following is a guide to help you get the most out of the new expansion, and also dispel a few myths :

A few simple musts

1 If you haven’t finished NY, you shouldn’t even consider Moscow let alone Cuba. You need to complete NY first to get the double Energy regen

2 The one exception to rule 1 above is that you should do *all* fighting in Moscow. Its the best way to get the money you’ll need to buy equipment. So if you can fight there (and it’s a given, you need to be able to win), then do so. Forget about Icing people – if they have no Rubels, move on until you find someone that does

Of the Eight achievements Zynga stated would be in Moscow, I’ve only seen two so far. I expect one to be for X many fights won in Moscow – may as well start collecting that total now. This is my own conjecture BTW – its not a definite, but if Moscow follows Cuba, then its a high probability

3 As you complete jobs and build up money buy equipment needed for other jobs as soon as you have enough money. If you don’t have enough, bank it ! If you don’t, you’ll lose it, and at a quick rate. Others are there looking for people who don’t bank and are happy to Ice you until you are broke

4 As soon as you’ve earned a Russian title, change it to a non Russian one. You’ve got less chance of being hit if people don’t think you’re playing in Moscow yet, and resultantly have no money to offer them

5 Picking sides is (currently) irrelevant. It may matter ultimately, and there are some small energy to XP ratio differences, but they are small enough not to matter. You can pick sides 3 times per tier (now called Episodes). The last one you pick is the one that will stick for that Episode for the rest of your time playing MW. Currently there’s no real super loot, so at the moment, it once again doesn’t matter. If it starts to matter, I’ll let you know

6 Don’t expect to be going anywhere quickly. The energy costs per job are expensive, and the ratio to XP is poor. It’s going to take a while to get through the beginning

7 Consumables are required for quite a few jobs – the consumable drop rate is very high, so you shouldn’t have difficulty obtaining them. The loot drop rate is very low though, so don’t be looking to get 501 of anything in a hurry

8 The current loot is rubbish – The best available (at the moment) is the PNV. This is only +1 better defense than a Guerilla Squad and the job (Re-route an equipment Shipment) costs 71 Energy for a 123XP return. Given that the increase is so marginal over GS’s, if you are still looking for armor then I strongly recommend you do the GS job in Cuba – 40 Energy for 82XP. You’ll get more loot, spend less energy, get more XP, and be no worse in real terms for using GS’s instead of PNV’s

9 You have the option to “get help” on certain jobs. The boss fights cannot be completed yourself, you *have* to get help, and with the boss fights can only get help once every 24 hours. Not that anyones got the energy to squeeze 2 a day in. There is a job in every Episode where the % mastery is 4% 1st time through, 2% second and only 1% the third. Get help on this job ! You need it – at the energy cost and 1% mastery, you could spend a week just doing this job alone

The story so far

I’m not going to spoil the story. Basically it may look a little confusing as each “Episode” is broken down into 3 chapters and a Finale. If you think back to your first four tiers on NY, it’s only slightly different. You have 9 jobs to do and a boss fight. The difference being you have to do the jobs in order. So the first 3 in Chapter one, another 3 in chapter two, 2 more in the third and then a one plus a boss fight (which you can only win with help) in the Finale. You now just have to do them in order, where as in NY you didn’t need to. You also have to do each tier 3 times in order to fully complete the tier mastery.

You need a lot of money – equipment is expensive. Take this money from fights before you even get there. If you are there, then there are currently two schools of thought apart from fighting :

1 Buy and upgrade the businesses (Rackets) as soon as they are available
2 Buy the equipment you need and come back to the businesses as and when you can afford them

I subscribe to the second school of thought. The business returns aren’t particularly great (even fully upgraded), whereas the cost of upgrading takes about $R80M (can’t remember exactly now). That kind of dough would have bought all the equipment you needed.

Again, this is a speculation of mine – robbing is currently suspended. While you can’t rob in Cuba, I have no idea whether Moscow Businesses will be able to be robbed. I’m guessing not, but do you want to put all your money there to find Zynga has had one of its whims and they’re at 30% next time you log on ?

Quick couple of last things :

You don’t lose your tag if you pick a side. You don’t need hundreds of .22’s / butterfly knives. You can change sides as you go along. Clans aren’t being broken up by the expansion. You can gift between people on different sides. If you drink a bottle of vodka you will get drunk :P

When robbing, don’t be afraid of attacking people 100’s of levels above you. A lot of players in Russia are Energy whores and are extremely weak. Don’t let level scare you – they’ve plowed all their profile points into Energy and gifted all their equipment away. Smash them for all the money you can !

Theres so much to say, that I’m in danger saying too much and giving you all information overload. So I’ll leave it there.

Have fun in Moscow, and if you have any questions, fire away.
