One question I have been seeing a lot of lately is “What is the best use of Godfather points?” First let’s discuss how you earn them! Going forward GF will stand for Godfather Points.
Every time you level up to an even level you get one GF point. Thus a level 200 player will have earned a total of 100 GF points. Roughly about once a month the fan site offers a bonus of 1-5 points (a random number gifted upon clicking on a one-time-use link). Beyond that you pretty much have to buy them. Buying them directly is the worst way to get them! Do it only if you are rich and have tons of extra money. The BEST cash direct offer will cost you .21 cents a point!
If you “must” buy them, then go through the various offers listed under the heading “Complete these offers and earn Reward Points!” Usually you can find trial offers where you get a product and have 15-30 days to return it without being charged. You pay only shipping to get the item and shipping to return it. For example, one offer I did cost me about $9.00 total ($5.50 for them to send it and $3.50 for me to send it back) and I earned 245 points for doing the offer. The means I spent only about .04 cents a point! Even better, with offers like The Video Professor and a few others I got to keep “free gifts” and only had to return a portion of the product. I just checked and right now Video Professor is offering 306 points. Round trip shipping should be under $12 so you will spend about .04 cents a GF point and get to keep part of the shipment!
Another way to earn points is to perform online surveys. Avoid this like the plague. They pay anywhere from 5-15 points per survey but you have to complete over 20 pages of hitting NO on every item and still they will sell your phone number and home address to other companies which are allowed to bypass the “National Do Not Call List” because you granted them permission to contact you when you signed up for the survey! Do not do it! Also do not do any mobile text offers as they are full of hidden costs.
The bottom line is, if you must buy points, do it smart! And when you do it smart, that means reading ALL of the fine print, printing out copies of EVERYTHING and making sure you fulfill all your obligations (getting products returned in time, canceling trial offers, etc.)
USING GF POINTS
When you get GF points you can do anything from refill your health to buying cool weapons. Here is the lowdown on what you get for your points:
2 points = Health refill, 10 points = Energy or Stamina refills: Health, Energy and Stamina all refill on their own. Wait a couple of hours and they will be refilled and you will have saved those points! Some people think that refilling their energy so they can level up faster is a good thing. The only thing that is good for is being a high level weakling that gets stepped on like a bug because you leveled up too fast and cannot protect yourself!
2 points = Lottery ticket: See the Lottery section below for more on this.
10 points = Cash. OK, Cash seems like a good idea – except for the fact that by level 150 it becomes worthless to you. The ONLY value in cash once you have gotten beyond level 150 or so is to try get the achievements geared towards cash. Those achievements earn you one skill point each. So you will spend 10 GF points to move you “slightly” closer to earning a skill point. Considering that 14 GF points can buy you four skill points (see more later) it seems like a raw deal.
15 points = new name: This might be helpful if you want to join a clan and wear their tag. Or perhaps you regret calling yourself “Erectile Dysfunction Boy” and want people to take your more seriously. Otherwise, leave your name alone. Unless you are one of the millions of Default Don’s out there. Then change it for the love of Pete!
20 points = 10 extra mafia members: One of my many regrets from the early days is that I used GF points to buy 40 mafia members. I had no idea about social groups or anything. Now that I have over 6,800 mafia members and over 7,000 pending friend requests, it sure seems dumb to have those 40 or so mafia members I purchased. I think at the time I was spending 10 points per two mafia members. If you need more mafia, go to the group home page and look at the discussion boards. We have a “mass email list” where you can literally grow your mafia by over 500 people in a couple of days.
20 – 55 points = Limited Time Offer weapons and Crate items. OK, so you can get some cool looking stuff here, but in the big picture it will not help your game in the slightest unless you buy at least 250+ of the top items available. That investment is roughly 6,000 GF points. Sure – you need to earn a rare create item to get an achievement. Does it make sense to spend 20+ points per try (it will most likely take several tries) just to get one skill point for the achievement? Avoid spending points on gear unless you are rich and have money to throw away. By the way, for those of you who are rich and want to throw money away – how about you send me money and I will play your character for you? Pretty much boils down to the same thing, doesn’t it?
14 points = 4 skill points: This, my friends is the best place to spend your points. Once you buy a skill point it stays with you forever, unlike everything else which either gets used immediately or is virtually worthless. If you are getting hurt a lot when being attacked, put those points into defense. If most people can’t hurt you but you only win 50% of the fights you pick, put them into attack. If you win 90% of your fights whether you are attacking or defending, then put them into energy or stamina. If you put those four points into energy you will earn roughly 1,400 energy daily (assuming you used them immediately) which is almost 10,000 energy a week, every week, as long as you are playing! Seems like a much better use than having gotten a single energy refill as mentioned earlier.
LOTTERY
Whenever you submit a lottery ticket you will see 1/6 of the lottery bar light up. Once the lottery bar reaches six items you can cash-in for two free GF points. So for those of you who are really concerned about GF points but do not want to spend a penny, submitting tickets daily and then cashing in after every six is a good way for points. Personally, I prefer to cash in after every two tickets. For every cash-in at two tickets you get a free ticket. As a ticket costs two GF points; that means you are essentially getting six GF points for every six tickets instead of two points for every six tickets. The bottom line on lottery tickets is this:
If GF points are most important: cash-in every sixth ticket for two GF points.
If buying tickets is more important (more chances of winning lottery items) then cash-in after every other ticket to get a free ticket.
